Profile of the programme: 

The students acquire the necessary knowledge for prepress preparation of printing publications, design, projection and development of multimedia and etc. Specialists in publishing and printing have the necessary knowledge in the field of advertising campaign development and marketing campaign support. The area of their work is both traditional and operational printing. During the learning process students cope with the modern software systems and image processing technology (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw), prepress training (PageMaker, InDesign, Quark XPress), creation of multimedia (Flash, Maya) and etc. Specialists are able to design and develop modern websites and portals with the use of the newest technology (HTML, DHTML, XML, Java, JavaScript, Php, NET) and software tools (Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Visual Studio). In the designing field students get all the necessary knowledge for designing of corporate fittings, development of corporate identity (brandbook) and animated presentations (Macromedia Director, Authorware).

The total credit load of the curriculum is 240 ECTS credits, including social and humanitarian modules — 24 credits, fundamental, natural science and general economic modules — 60 credits, professional and practical training modules — 156 credits.

    • Basic ideas of structure, management and process optimization, fitting calculation and cost efficiency of materials.
    • Principles of technological plan design and work planning procedures, selection of manufacturing equipment and tools.
    • Principles of construction and operation of printing and postprinting equipment, and automated control systems of printing and publishing process.
    • Software and hardware that is used in publishing firms and printing houses.
    • Structure, content and decoration designing of publications or other printing and publishing industry products.
    • Principles of geometric modeling and configuration building of objects.
    • Methods and means of engineering and computer graphics.
    • Colour theory and developing, processes of prepress preparation of coloured editions and packing.
    • Present knowledge in the field of digital signal and image processing, technologies of processing audio and video information.
    • Principles of artistic design, electronic publications design and printing and publishing industry products.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples: 

The Bachelors in the Printing and Publishing major have to deal with : technologies of automated processing of text and graphic information, of using database, of publications preparation and printing, methodology of performing of system and analytical researches, general aspects, which provide preparation technology of electronic publishing, modeling of printing and publishing processes, methodology, technology and tools of advertising (for printing and electronic mass media).

Occupation: a designer

Produces layout of publication, product or advertising product. Uses modern means of graphic modeling and designing of web-pages and web-applications with scripting languages, using the technology of distributed applications for interactive interaction between user and web-pages.

Occupation: a specialist in prepress preparation of printing publications

Creates a layout of the publication or product template, develops edition structure, makes the choice of specific materials depending on the chosen technology, the selection of technical equipment according to the proposed technology at all stages of the technological process. Makes the selection of software products that will provide reconversion of various components of the original without loss of first-source quality in the prepress stage of the original production.

Occupation:a specialist in multimedia and electronic publications

Develops the model and structure of electronic edition for publication on laser or magnetic disks with the help of up-to-date hardware and software, using text, graphic and HTML-editors. Develops electronic edition for reproduction in electronic mass media with the help of software and hardware video information processing, using video graphic adjusting complexes or video studios.

Access to further studies: 

Bachelor in the Printing and Publishing major may continue his/her study at the university in the second cycle degree Master/Specialist in the major Computer Technologies and Systems of Printing and Publishing.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading: 
Provisional Regulation on knowledge evaluation and recognition of students’ rating in the credit-modular system of the educational process.
Graduation requirements: 
Completed curriculum with credit load — 240 credits, defended bachelor’s thesis.
