Profile of the programme: 

Students of this field of Metrology, Standardization and Certification receive necessary knowledge to work in the territorial authorities and research institutions of the State Committee of Ukraine for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy, services and bodies of standardization, metrology and certification in enterprises and organizations of different fields, including bank and commercial structures, customs services and others. Graduates are prepared for researches in the field of methods and means development of controlling products quality, its standardization and certification; industrial activity in instrument-making and other enterprises; administrative, control and inspection activities in public institutions; teaching in the field of quality, standardization and certification in educational institutions of higher education; economic activity in organizations, institutions and enterprises concerned with quality control and assurance.
The total credit load of the curriculum is 240 ECTS credits, including social and humanitarian modules — 33 cr.; fundamental, natural science and general economic modules — 52 cr.; modules of professional and practical training — 101 cr.

Key learning outcomes: 
  1. Knowledge and understanding
    • to know main regulations of national and international conformity standards; acquire knowledge on products certification, services, personnel, production quality and the environment management systems; to learn the principles and rules of national certification systems construction and know the basic regulations of the UkrSEPRO certification system;
    • to know the organization, structure and main regulations of national standardization; normative documentation varieties and standards types; works organization procedure in standardization; principles of standards implementation and the state supervision of their maintenance; standards systems; main directions of international and regional standardization organizations activities;
    • basic concepts of theoretical, applied and legal metrology; basics of the measurement errors theory types and methods of measurement; bases of measuring instruments building and their metrological and operational characteristics; metrological support and the metrological verification; about the metrological service and its operations;
    • to justify the need for introduction of new standards and normative technical documentation and to monitor their requirements maintenance;
    • to form the foundation of normative documents used during the production certification and management systems certification; acquire knowledge of scientific, technical, organizational and legal basis of metrology measurements support and measuring means for development, production, testing and operation stages of these facilities;
    • legal, organizational, methodological and technical base of carrying out metrology, standardization and confirmation of goods and services conformity at the enterprise;
    • basic concepts of measurement, control and testing; methods of physical quantities measurement; methods of objects properties control and testing of measuring means; basic regulations concerning measurement, control and testing.
  2. Intellectual (thinking) skills
    • be able to conduct products certification; procedure for accreditation of conformity assessment bodies and testing laboratories;
    • organize and plan activities on standardization; use special, reference and methodological literature; apply the acquired knowledge to set standards; develop draft standards; perform economic calculations for evaluation of standardization; monitor compliance with standards and control the technical documentation; organize information provision on standardization;
    • complete a certificates on management systems, and prepare decisions about charging off or suspension of valid certificates on management systems and certificates production; compose, arrange and edit normative and technical documentation, improve existing methods at enterprises and develop new ones;
    • be able to use normative and technical documentation; make their metrological expertise; properly formulate and conduct the experiment, perform experimental studies and calibration of measuring instruments; creatively apply new approaches to metrology software, make conclusions based on the results of measuring the quality and condition of metrological support;
    • develop normative documentation and actions for their implementation; organize metrological support of measurements and measuring equipment; inspect the maintenance of metrological rules and regulations and requirements of the standards; control the technical documentation; organize control of the manufacturing process and finished products;
    • be able to choose the means of measurement for certain types of measurements; evaluate the measurement errors and perform tests of measure instruments.

Ability to perform functions and solve problems related with the introduction of new measuring equipment, new methods of measuring, testing and control, metrological certification; analysis of the causes of shortages and development of the means of product quality improvement; development and implementation of quality management systems; the organization of production in accordance with international standards.

The activity objects of the bachelor in Metrology, Standardization and Certification major are technologies of physical dimensions measurement and metrological supply for technological processes of products manufacturing, design procedures of the normative documents for production and services, confirmation procedures of products and services correspondence, methods of certification test, methodology of system and analytic researches completion, general aspects which ensure the technology of production and confirmation of products correspondence, methodology, technology and instruments for providing the measurement, test and control of products and services.

Occupation: Technical expert in the field of physical sciences and technic

The expert is able to do the following professional tasks:

  • development, testing and mending of the technical devices for measurement and control;
  • technological processes preparation and implementation;
  • preparation of normative and technical documentation and certification;
  • technical inspection and quality verification of products, goods and services.
Access to further studies: 

Bachelor in Metrology, Standardization and Certification major may continue his/her studies at the second cycle degree (Specialist and the Master) in Quality, Standardization and Certification major.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading: 
Provisional Regulation on knowledge evaluation and recognition of students’ rating in the credit-modular system of the educational process.
Graduation requirements: 
Completed curriculum with credit load — 240 credits, defended bachelor’s thesis.
